So rather than punching a bunch of holes and checking to see how deep you are and if any fish are located below the spot you are standing you can just shoot your flasher through the ice.  It works best if the ice is clear and not full of air holes or snow pack.  Simply take a salt water solution and pour it on the ice.  Make sure that the transducer snugs up tight to the ice and turn your Vexilar flasher on.

This works with all the flashers, so it isn't just a Vexilar thing.  Try it with your Marcum flasher or Hummingbird flasher and see what it shows.  This is a great way for the ice angler with a hand auger to maximize the holes that he does cut.

Have you ever tried this trick?  How has it worked for you?
